HBO Family is a channel devoted to family-oriented movies and television series. The channel exclusively broadcasts movies rated G, PG, or PG-13 and television series rated TV-G, TV-PG or TV-14. It does not show any R-rated films or TV-MA content. The 24-hour, commercial-free, subscription service channel is part of the HBO multiplex.
HBO Family aims to provide wholesome movies and TV shows that families can watch together. The channel's movies run the gamut from child- and adolescent-oriented films such as Agent Cody Banks (2003), in which Frankie Muniz stars as a skateboarding secret agent, to goofy comedy classics like Good Burger (1997), starring off-the-wall comedy duo Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell. It also features newer film releases, such as The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013), starring Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, and Orlando Bloom.
The channel's TV series tend to be oriented toward a younger audience, featuring shows like A Little Curious, an animated, light-hearted children's show or Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales for Every Child, in which actors retell classic children's stories from multi-cultural perspectives.
Though HBO Family is a TV and movie channel, the programming predominantly features movies that appeal to all age groups. The television shows, which cater mostly to child audiences, tend to run only in the early morning, while the rest of the day's programming is devoted to films.
