H2 is the sister channel of History in the US and features a large amount of original programming and shows that are initially broadcast on the main History Channel. The channel was originally founded in 1996 as History International and has gone through a series of rebranding and logo changes over the years until becoming H2 in 2011. The move to become H2 was accompanied by a change in focus towards reruns of popular documentary series and specials that had originally been broadcast on the History Channel and the broadcasting of a series of original programs and series that focused on science, history and conspiracy theories.
The majority of programming offered by H2 is in the form of series that look at conspiracy theories and unconventional scientific theories, such as America's Book of Secrets. Conspiracy theories and different views of history are represented by the shows Bard Meltzer's Decoded and America Unearthed. A series of science based documentaries are also broadcast by the channel, which include The Universe, a series based on the formation and mysteries of what is known about space. A number of original programs are also broadcast and distributed by H2, many of which focus on theories of aliens focusing their attentions on Earth. Amongst the alien based documentaries broadcast are Ancient Aliens and Monsterquest.
