Galavision is a Miami, Florida based television channel that broadcasts all of its programming in Spanish. It broadcasts all over the United States and is dedicated to showing programming that appeals to Hispanic-Americans.
The channel has been broadcasting since 1979, and although it was originally launched as a premium cable channel, the rise in demand for Spanish language programing that caters to people living in the United States has led it to become a basic cable channel. The station is also broadcast in HD.
The channel is home to a wide range of programming including movies, news, telanovas, comedy programing, variety shows, and sports. Most of the shows on Galavision are second run programming or acquired programing from other stations. Galavision does show live news and sports broadcasts even though it does not produce them. Most of the programming on Galavsion is the US broadcast of shows produced by it's sister station from Mexico, Telavisia or shows acquired from it's sister station, Univsion in New York. There are a few Miami produced shows on the network, including Acceso Maximo, Delisioso, and Un Destino.
Because the network's focus is on being a source of information and entertainment for people of all ages and all interests who live in the US and speak Spanish, there is wide variety of programming, much of which is centered on talk shows, news, and variety entertainment, as well as popular sporting events in Hispanic culture. The station also shows movies, many of which are Hollywood blockbusters that have been dubbed in Spanish.
