Fox Movie Channel, commonly known as FXM, is a satellite television and digital cable channel that was launched in October of 1994. The channel is owned by the Fox Entertainment group, which is a branch of the popular 21st Century Fox. Viewers who tune into this channel are offered a variety of movies, mainly those from the 20th Century Fox library. Competitors of FXM include Sony Pictures Entertainment's Sony Movie Channel, Time Warner Cable's Turner Classic Movies, and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's MGM HD. Each of these channels also offer their respective feature films from their own inventories.
Most recently, on March 27, 2013, Fox Movie Channel announced that they would switch from being primarily a programming block on FXM to becoming a full scale network of the Fox Network family, which would include FX and FXX. On June 9, 2014, FXM was dropped completely and replaced with FXM Retro, although the programming that remains on the block still remains to be uncut and conveniently commercial-free.
In a recent poll conducted by FXM, it was reported that as of August 2013, the channel was available to nearly 50 million pay television homes in America. That is the equivalent of nearly 50 percent of households that have television.
FXM provides a high definition and high quality broadcast of movies displayed in the 720 pixel format. This allows for viewers and audiences nationwide to enjoy a variety of movies almost anywhere at anytime with a crystal clear picture.
