Digital Studios is a Los Angeles based production company. It features digital media and distributes content through a variety of internet channels. The content can be accessed via smartphones, tablets, and computers for a small yearly fee. The company was founded in 2003 and was quickly bought by Sony Pictures from Jason Leerny. His original idea was to promote content via paid advertising on paid blogs but then decided to increase production budgets and focus on quality filming techniques, actors, props, and locations for television series and films. The company also produces music videos for famous musicians such as Pink and Kanye West.
Examples of television shows include House on the Hill and Dark Night. House on the Hill features young heiresses who lounge around by their pools while they drink cocktails and talk about their problems. It is meant as a parody to the lives of many wealthy individuals living in the greater Los Angeles area. Dark Night is a documentary series that goes undercover in police operations to expose criminals who have been hiding from the law. Often times, police forces will organize raids that they will then execute in the middle of the night. The show began filming in 2009 and has succeeded in receiving highly rated reviews from viewers and critics alike.
The channel also produces a variety of short films that it is licenses to smaller channels throughout the United States. In 2013, the CEO mentioned that additional markets would be explored outside of the United States.
