'The Voice' Takes a Tip from 'American Idol,' Adds Live Results Shows

'The Voice' Takes a Tip from 'American Idol,' Adds Live Results Shows All along, NBC's vocal competition show "The Voice" has wanted to show everyone that it's different from "American Idol." Cee Lo Green even spoke up before the show aired, saying that he thought shows like "American Idol" had "run their course." During the show, Adam Levine cracked that a lot of the talent that was being turned away could be in the finals on "Idol," but weren't quite up to "Voice" standards.

But as far as format goes, it looks like "The Voice" isn't so different from "American Idol" after all: NBC has just decided to add a set of live results shows to the summer schedule, one day after the live performance shows air. Sound familiar? It should, because that's exactly what "American Idol" does.

I've been watching "The Voice," and personally I find it a lot more entertaining than "Idol," purely because there's actually some singing going on. "American Idol" has gotten to the point where it will have hour-long or 90-minute-long shows that have  only a handful of performances, and the rest is product placement: segments featuring contestants video chatting with family members are just advertisements for Windows 7, and don't even get me started on those Ford "music videos."

So while I would love to see more of "The Voice," I fear what will come of it if it takes on this format. They'll have another hour to fill, and the temptation to use it for product placement will be immense. But maybe they'll surprise us and give us actual entertainment instead. Like, for example, more performances from Christina, Cee Lo, Adam and Blake.

So far, "The Voice" has added only two results shows, one for each of the final two weeks. That means the season finale has been set for Wednedsay, June 29th.
