Recap Special: 'The Office' Season Finale...Who's the New Boss?

Recap Special: 'The Office' Season Finale...Who's the New Boss? The news leading into the day of "The Office" season finale indicated that Catherine Tate was the front-runner to replace Steve Carell. Now, the finale has aired. How did it turn out?

In short, it didn't.

Yes, after an hour-long finale, nothing was totally settled in the search for the new manager of Dunder-Mifflin's Scranton branch. But we did get a fantastic display of guest stardom, as Will Arnett, Catherine Tate, James Spader, Ricky Gervais, Jim Carrey, and Ray Romano stopped by.

Who was best? Will Arnett did his Arnett thing, which is always fun to watch. Ray Romano was a self-loathing charicature of himself, and Ricky Gervais reprised a bit of Brent. But James Spader was perhaps the most brilliant, bringing that blend of awkwardness and quiet outlandishness that works so well on "The Office." Catherine Tate was great too, and her character seemed to ring the most of Michael Scott. It turns out that she's a good friend of Jo (Kathy Bates) as well, so it's looking good for Tate.

Honorable mention goes to Jim Carrey, whose appearance was tragically short. Funny, but short.

Could the job go to one of the regulars? Darryl seems a bit underqualified for the job, and Dwight is a near impossibility, but Andy could totally work as the manager. There's even a bit of Michael-ness to him...that is to say, he's clueless. And with all of these big stars with busy schedules coming in, it's hard to say which one of them would be able to stick around.

But in the end, no decision was made. We are left with a long wait, a tough choice, and a very exasperated Jim.
