Academy Awards Nominations Announced: 'The King's Speech' and 'True Grit' Lead the Pack

The Academy Awards nominations were announced this morning, with less noticeable flubs, omissions and overall confusion than usual.

While "The King's Speech” did well as expected, with 12 nominations, it will face strong competition from “True Grit,” which gathered ten nominations. “Black Swan” and “The Social Network” each gathered several nominations as well.

Academy voters were apparently huffing gas out of a paper bag when they decided to snub Andrew Garfield for "The Social Network" and instead nominate Jeremy Renner for his role in "The Town."

The most interesting race may be for Actress in a Leading Role, between Natalie Portman for “The Black Swan” and Academy fav Annette Bening in “The Kids Are All Right,” though Michelle Williams could also be a sleeper for her gut-wrenching role in “Blue Valentine.”

Colin Firth and Jesse Eisenberg face off for Best Actor in a Leading Role, and Melissa Leo may face some serious competition from her co-star Amy Adams for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.
