James Franco Finally Dishes On 'Low Energy' Oscars On 'Late Show With David Letterman'

James Franco Finally Dishes On 'Low Energy' Oscars On 'Late Show With David Letterman' Was he stoned? Was he tired? Did he just not care? Ever since The Academy Awards aired, people have been asking questions about James Franco's low-energy performance as host and wondering what went wrong.

Franco finally has some answers for us, as he sat down for an interview with David Letterman. "Truthfully, I haven't watched it back," Franco said, according to a report by New York Magazine. "Maybe I was low-energy. I honestly played those lines as well as I could."

Letterman commiserated with Franco, sharing his experiences about the hosting duty: "I was so bad that they talked for a while about shutting down the motion picture industry," said the "Late Show" host.

"People didn't say you were stoned," Franco replied.

Franco had another theory about why he might have seemed low-energy: "I love her, but Anne Hathaway is so energetic, I think the Tasmanian Devil would look stoned standing next to Anne Hathaway," Franco mused.

That might be a stretch, but it's true that Hathaway was at times a little desperately chipper.

Franco stirred the pot a bit last week when he posted a picture on Twitter knocking Bruce Vilanch, who had spoken out about the Oscar ceremony.
