Florence of Florence and the Machines: The Next 'Doctor Who' Nemesis?

Florence of Florence and the Machines: The Next 'Doctor Who' Nemesis? Show of hands: who thinks that when “Doctor Who” made its 1963 BBC debut, not only did its creators probably never suspect it would still be going strong in late 2011, but that Grammy-nominated musicians would consider a villain turn on the show something for the bucket list?

It aired its first 26 consecutive seasons from ’63 until 1989, was given a 1996 TV movie and received a 2005 re-launch that’s still going strong today – all told, a total legacy of 783 episodes spanning 11 “Doctors” that’s put it in the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest-running sci-fi series in the world.

Florence Welch – namesake of Florence + The Machine – has had quite the break-out last couple years. Not only did her 2009 UK debut album Lungs become an overseas award-winning hit, but she received a Best New Artist nomination for the 53rd Grammy Awards, performed live at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards and also played at the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize Concert.

Now, she recently told the BBC One Newsbeat entertainment reporter Steve Holden while promoting the Oct. 31 release of the Florence + The Machine album Ceremonials, she’d like to go head-to-head with The Doctor as a “Who” baddie.

She claims that though she only recently got into the show via the most recent season to star Matt Smith as The Doctor, she’s become a quick study.
