Return of the Never Nudes: Actors Say 'Arrested Development' Movie is 'Properly Happening'

Tobias Funke just blue himself. In a feat of Houdini-like magic worthy of master illusionist Gob Bluth, the "Arrested Development" movie you've been hearing about for years may finally appear in a theater near you.

Comedian and frequent Mitch Hurwitz collaborator Peter Serafinowicz told Splitsider that the "Arrested Development" writer is currently in the midst of penning a new feature length script that picks up where the Bluth family left off.

According to Serafinowicz, who worked with Hurwitz on the short-lived ABC series "Running Wilde," "it's all properly happening. I don't know anything about it other than that he's writing it and it's happening and I'm going to be in it, apparently."

David Cross, who played "never nude" and aspiring Blue Man Dr. Tobias Funke in "Arrested Development," reiterated the claim to Entertainment Weekly.

“I know the story they’ve got in mind, and it is great. I think it is [a] perfect continuance of the Bluths, although I cannot say anything. I know the outline is done.”

The actor said it was just a matter of Hurwitz finding enough time to write the script. With "Running Wilde" on the skids, perhaps Hurwitz has the schedule to do the show.

”I am definitely looking forward to it whenever, if ever, it happens,” said Cross.

An "Arrested Development" film has been rumored for years, with high-profile fans like Keith Olbermann even getting into the mix with prognostications on release dates. While it sounds like the feature is far from certain, it's bound to give ardent fans hope.

"Arrested Development" was a cult classic of a TV series that appeared between 2003-2006 on Fox. The series starred a Who's Who of the American comedy scene, including Jason Bateman, Portia De Rossi, Will Arnett, David Cross and the not-yet-then-famous Michael Cera.

The show was critically acclaimed, earning six Emmy's, a Golden Globe and being named on of Time Magazine's "100 Best TV Shows of All Time." Years after the show's demise, it has become a wildly successful boxed-DVD set, and a well-deserved popular pick on Netflix.

For as much critical acclaim and fan base as the show commanded, it never drove the ratings it needed to be a commercial success. Many of the show's fans and creators blamed the network for doing a poor job of promoting the series.
