Lorne Michaels: '30 Rock' Goes On With or Without Alec Baldwin

Lorne Michaels: '30 Rock' Goes On With or Without Alec Baldwin Who will Liz Lemon turn to for life advice if Alec Baldwin's Jack Donaghy departs his top floor office at "30 Rock"? Lorne Michaels is willing to find out, according to comments shared with New York Magazine's Vulture.

Baldwin recently commented that the next season of the NBC cult comedy hit "30 Rock" would be the last. At the very least, he strongly hinted that the upcoming season of the show would be his last as the tough head of fictional Kabletown. But Michaels says the show will go on, with or without Baldwin on it.

At the TV Critics Association press tour promoting his new NBC comedy "Up All Night" with Will Arnett and Christina Applegate, Michaels reassured fans of his confidence in "30 Rock". He told Vulture he couldn't imagine a scenario where next season's sixth outing of the show would be it's last.

"It's got a lot of life and vitality and we all want to keep it going," Michaels said of "30 Rock"'s future.

What if Alec Baldwin, who has threatened to leave the whip-smart comedy multiple times before, finally made good on his promise and left after season six?

"I can't imagine doing the show without Alec, but I couldn't imagine doing [Saturday Night Live] without Chevy," Michaels told Vulture. "And we're still on the air."

While fans of the show will undoubtedly be happy to hear Liz Lemon will soilder on eating her night cheese, the idea of it continuing on without Badlwin is bittersweet. The relationship between Jack and Tina Fey's Liz is the bedrock of the show, weathering all kinds of comical and outrageous storms stronger than ever.
