Weekend Box Office: 'Ant-Man' Shrinks As 'Trainwreck' Crashes the Party

"Ant-Man" may be the #1 movie at the box office this week, but that doesn't mean that Marvel has to be happy with it.

The new superhero flick starring Paul Rudd earned about $58 million over the weekend, more than enough to take the top spot. It's not a bad opening for a movie by any means, but it is nonetheless Marvel's lowest opening since "The Incredible Hulk." Some of that can be attributed to the fact that Ant-Man isn't a well-known superhero, but then again neither were the Guardians of the Galaxy.

The other new opener this weekend was Amy Schumer's first feature film "Trainwreck," which earned a healthy $30.2 million, surpassing Universal's expectations. The movie was likely bolstered by Schumer's high profile, which has increased with a number of sketches gone viral from her newest season of "Inside Amy Schumer."

Despite its strong opening, "Trainwreck" came in at #3 with "Minions" holding over for the second spot. The animated flick earned $50.2 million in its second week, a big drop from its massive opening but nonetheless enough to put the movie well over the $200 million mark in just two weeks.

Another animated film took fourth place as "Inside Out" continued a strong run with $11.6 million. Right behind it was "Jurassic World" with about $11.3 million, putting it past the $600 million mark domestically.

Here are the top 5 for the week, with cumulative domestic totals:

1. "Ant-Man" - $58M

2. "Minions" - $50.2M ($216.7M)

3. "Trainwreck" - $30.2M

4. "Inside Out" - $11.6M ($306.3M)

5. "Jurassic World" - $11.3M ($611.1M)
