Who Will Play Anastasia Steele in '50 Shades of Grey?'
by Shannon Keirnan
With the major success of the 50 Shades of Grey novels, fans are frothing for the movie adaptation.
Many actresses have been considered for the role of spank-happy Anastasia Steele, including Amanda Seyfried, Emmy Rossum, Alexis Bledel, and Emma Watson. Kristen Stewart was also rumored to be in the running, but turned down the opportunity.
While no clear choice has been made, in fan preference, at least, one lady seems to be taking the lead.
Emilia Clarke, who plays the dragon-loving Daenerys Targaryen on HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” has fans stirring up the internet with a move to cast her in the newly hatched film. Fans insist the lithe brunette has the natural innocence, youth, and sense of mystery the Anastasia Steele character needs.
And Clarke certainly has no qualms about baring her lady bits on-screen, a necessity for the steamy BDSM novel’s adaptation.
There has also been talk about who can accurately bring to life the character of Christian Grey. Chris Pine has declined to be considered for the role, which surprises approximately no one who has seen a Chris Pine movie.
Other actors rumored to have been discussed for the role include smoking hot but a little dangerous Alexandar Skarsgard, Ian Somerhalder, Arnie Hammer, and even, strangely, good guy Mark Ruffalo.
Ryan Gosling has even made it on the list, though, it would seem, largely by the nation’s desire to see him naked as much as possible rather than any actual interest in the role.
While the casting choices remains speculation, there is little doubt the stars will be carefully selected. With fans wildly loyal to the book, the movie will have to be handled with care. No matter how much it prefers it rough.
Who do you think would be best suited to play the roll of Anastasia?
