'Pitch Perfect' Sequel Set to be Released in 2015
by Zack Wells“Pitch Perfect 2” has been officially announced after much speculation, and given the release date of 2015.
The movie will follow the wildly popular “Pitch Perfect”, though there are no known plot details. The first film followed the story of Freshman Beca (played by Anna Kendrick) and her journey to revolutionize her university’s all female a cappella group and bring them into the 21st century.
The first film was a financial and critical success, averaging an 81% on Rotten Tomatoes. The soundtrack from the film also went on to be a success, with three of the songs landing in the Billboard Hot 100 charts, and moving on to be the best selling soundtrack of 2013.
At this time, there is no one attached to the cast, though Skylar Astin and Rebel Wilson have been previously approached about reprising their roles.
Brittany Snow, who starred as Chloe in the first film, revealed in an interview that she was not even aware the film had received an official green light, and that she really hopes they ask her to come back.
Screenwriter Kay Cannon, whose past writing credits include “Pitch Perfect”, “New Girl”, and “30 Rock”, is returning to write the sequel.
No other information is known yet, unfortunately, but hopefully we will be hearing some casting news soon. It is almost guaranteed that Anna Kendrick, Skylar Astin, and Rebel Wilson will return. As for what capacity they return, who knows. I just hope this film does not suffer from sequelitis and ruin a good thing. If the “Glee” renewal is any indication, then there is growing and hungry market for more a cappella and glee club films on the horizon. Hopefully the market doesn’t oversaturate.
