Paul Giamatti To Wreak Havok In 'The Amazing Spider-Man' Sequel?
by Shannon KeirnanWill the sequel to “The Amazing Spider-Man” be chock-full of villains?
Already cast is “Django Unchained” star, Jamie Foxx, who will be playing the shockingly bad guy Electro.
Now word is that respected “Rock of Ages” actor Paul Giamatti is throwing his hat in to get his bad guy on as The Rhino.
The Rhino, who has been described as “famously one of Spider-Man’s dimmest villains,” debuted in the 1966 comic as hired muscle who volunteered in participate in an experiment. The process left him with an incredibly strong polymer bonded to his skin, allotting him super strength and speed.
Giamatti claims he has always been a fan of the lumbering villain.
In 2011 Giamatti told Showbiz Spy, “I thought Rhino was the greatest thing when I was a little kid. It was a guy who was basically in this rhinoceros outfit and I always thought, 'Why don't they have The Rhino in one of their movies?' but maybe The Rhino wasn’t that big of a deal for anybody but me."
Giamatti said he was “ready and waiting” to play the role should the opportunity ever arise.
If cast, Giamatti will be joining Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn, Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, and of course, Andrew Garfield as the web-slinger himself.
“The Amazing Spider-Man” grossed over $750 million worldwide, so it’s no wonder big names want to get on board here. Gorgeous “Like Crazy” Felicity Jones actress is also in talks to be joining the cast, although no word yet on who she will play.
