Maybe I should pick up a couple more books and get to reading. It took me a couple years to watch this movir after it was released. I guess the previews just looked too cheesy or overly mushy but oh was it a great film. This is what love is all about. Sticking it out and calling it like it is in good times and bad. She gives up her life of wealth and privilege to follow her heart and it pays off. He is by her side until the very last minute. So very much in love. Reminds me of my great-grandparents.
Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling are magical on screen. There is so much chemistry it's hard not to feel excited just watching them look at one another. Pure joy and love. The journey is a long one and the way it's told starting toward the end with them as an elderly couple in an old folks home is sweet. It makes more sense later on as you see them relate to each other and get to know their personalities, his specifically.
You can't help but love Gosling's persistence in getting McAdam's attention through the years during the story. He tries really hard and doesn't let the class difference stop him. I can't imagine writing a love letter every day for a year. It sounds like a wonderful challenge, one we should all undertake at some point to show someone else how much they mean to us.
A delightfully loving movie about the power of the heart and being able to follow one's one beating message.
