Watch the New Trailer For George Clooney Political Drama 'The Ides Of March'

If I may hazard a guess, I’d wager that it probably gives dark-horse Oscar nomination contenders fits whenever an upcoming drama includes the description “co-written, directed by and starring George Clooney.”

You could probably just about run software to automatically select some nominees just based on skimming an IMDB synopsis for keywords, Google-style. That key phrase would probably merit an instant annual nomination, and even more depressingly, whatever movie the computer preemptively tapped with that description would probably make the program look damn-near infallible.

With that in mind, now comes before the Yidio jury Clooney’s upcoming political thriller “The Ides of March,” complete with a truly bad-ass trailer.

In the Ohio Presidential primary’s home-stretch, a campaign press secretary prodigy (Ryan Gosling) gets himself stuck in a scandal that might shoot his candidate’s (Clooney) White House run in the foot.

“The Ides of March” also stars Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Marisa Tomei, Paul Giamatti, Jeffrey Wright, Max Minghella and Evan Rachel Wood. It premieres at this September’s Toronto Film Festival, and hits theaters everywhere Oct. 7.
