Oopsie! Melissa Leo Apologizes for F-Bomb Dropped During Academy Awards Acceptance Speech

Oopsie! Melissa Leo Apologizes for F-Bomb Dropped During Academy Awards Acceptance Speech Melissa Leo Apologized for her F-bomb during The Academy Awards last night during her acceptance speech.

Not only was it her first gaffe on live TV, but it was the first F-bomb out of anyone on an Oscar broadcast.

Leo came out right after she did it and said it probably wasn’t appropriate for that crowd. But that crowd did laugh after she said it, even though the words were bleeped for actually being aired on live TV.

Leo told Access Hollywood “as soon as I said it, of course I heard it and I worked in television for a long, long time and I have a great respect for the rules especially of network television. I know where they earn their bread and butter and how they pay their workers and that’s through advertising."

Leo said she was simply caught up in the moment.

“I apologize from the bottom of my heart,” she continued. “Just slipped out. I was a little excited.”

This wasn't the first Oscars-related gaffe for Leo.

The "For Your Consideration" ads she put out on her own behalf in industry magazines (wearing a low-cut black dress in one and a large fake fur coat in another) were widely panned as cheesy and self-aggrandizing.

Responding to criticism, she told the New York Times "this entire awards process to some degree is about pimping yourself out. I'm confident my fans will understand the ads were about showing a different side of myself."

Ultimately it's a credit to Leo that her acting was so strong in "The Fighter" that she was able to overcome the backlash from her ads.
