Costner Cast as Slave Trainer in Tarantino's 'Django Unchained'
by Andy Neuenschwander
He's played Robin Hood, a well-meaning farmer, and even a heroic fish man, but Kevin Costner is about to take on a much different role from the ones he's used to playing.
Costner is the newest name to join Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained," which tells the story of a freed slave who becomes a bounty hunter in order to rescue his wife from an evil plantation owner. Costner will be playing the role of Ace Woody, a man who works at the plantation and trains the slaves to fight each other to the death.
This evil, villainous role will be a sharp contrast to Costner's past roles, not to mention his upcoming appearance in "Man of Steel" as Superman's kind-hearted adopted father Jonathan Kent.
If negotiations go smoothly, Costner will join the existing cast of Jamie Foxx as the hero Django, Leonardo DiCaprio as the plantation owner Calvin Candie, Christoph Waltz as the bounty hunter that trains Django, and Samuel L. Jackson as a house slave that remains loyal to Candie.
You'll also be able to see Costner in the TV miniseries "The Hatfields and McCoys," which he is also producing and will air on the History Channel.
