Is Jamie Foxx the New 'Spider-Man' Villain?
by Shannon KeirnanRumor has it the villain for the sequel to “The Amazing Spider-Man” has been chosen, and Jamie Foxx seems to enjoy teasing fans about his involvement.
Reports are flying that the Oscar winner will be stepping in as Spider-Man’s newest nemesis in the upcoming flick, set to start filming next year. Foxx took to his Twitter with a neither-confirming-nor-denying tweet that seems to be leaning more toward a “yes” than a “no.”
“Dressed up as Electro for Halloween last night. Costume fits well,” Foxx tantalized.
Electro, also known as Max Dillon, first appeared in the Spider-Man comic book series in 1964. Nasty Dillon receives the power to control electricity after being struck by lightning, and uses his superhuman abilities to run a crime spree.
Electro sports a snazzy green and yellow, lightning-theme costume. He has traditionally been depicted as Caucasian, but no doubt fans will be appreciative of someone with Foxx’s talent taking the role, regardless of straying a bit from the original.
Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are set to return in the sequel, and Shailene Woodley of “The Descendants” might be appearing as a young Mary Jane Watson. The film is set to release in 2014.
“The Amazing Spider-Man” hinted at its next villain during a short credits scene, where Dr. Curt Conners is visited in jail by a shadowy figure, who disappears in a flash of lightning. Most fans agree that this is a suggestion that Electro will be popping up soon, although others believe it might be a teaser for Norman Osborn—The Green Goblin.
Will Foxx confirm the news soon? Hopefully. Until then, you can check out Foxx this Christmas in Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained,” or settle in with “The Amazing Spider-Man,” which is hitting DVD and Blu-ray November 9th.
