'Dexter,' Meet Mos Def

'Dexter,' Meet Mos Def Just a few days after we learned Colin Hanks would be coming on board for the sixth season of "Dexter" comes news that multi-talented hip-hop MC and actor Mos Def will be joining the series for several episodes as a bad guy as well.

THR is reporting that Mos Def will play "a hardened ex-con who claims to have found religion, yet seems to continually find himself surrounded by violence." Something tells me Dexter might have a great way to deal with that little problem.

Besides being one of the most talented and interesting rappers alive, Mos Def has been developing his acting chops seriously for quite some time. He showed up for an episode of "House" recently, and had a role as Super Mr. Superhero on the children's show "Yo Gabba Gabba" (see that vid below).

Starring roles in "Be Kind Rewind," "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" and a brilliant performance in the TV movie "Something the Lord Made" have proven that he can step up to the plate for comedic and dramatic roles alike, so we're really looking forward to seeing what the writing staff from "Dexter" has in store for him.

In other "Dexter" news, we've also learned more about the character Colin Hanks will be playing on the series.

"Hanks will play Travis, Dexter’s main nemesis and a highly intelligent ancient artifacts expert who is linked to a series of grisly murders in Miami," says THR.

Dexter always does his best work when he's challenged, so an evil nemesis with a similar forensic approach to murder could make for some great storylines.

The final season of the highly rated Showtime series will feature a new showrunner in former Executive Producer Scott Buck, who, besides writing or co-writing the last three season finales, worked with Michael C. Hall on "Six Feet Under."

The sixth season will also include all of the writers from the last season, so it promises to be a blood-splattered doozy.
