Is a Dane Cook Sitcom Coming to NBC?

With a long tradition of bringing the talents of stand-up comedians to the sitcom world ("Seinfeld" and, more recently, "Whitney" are a couple of example), it was only a matter of time before NBC decided to pursue one of the most popular comedians out there: Dane Cook.

Cook has struck a talent deal with the Peacock, with the network hoping that he'll bring them a new comedy with some ratings appeal. Though NBC has a very strong lineup of comedies that are a hit with critics ("Community," "Parks and Recreation," "Up All Night"), they aren't quite as strong in terms of viewership.

Should Cook choose to star as well as write, he could bring a bit of star power to whatever show he comes up with: Cook has recently starred in high-profile (but poorly reviewed) movies like "Good Luck Chuck" and "Employee of the Month."

As far as TV appearances go, he recently found his way onto "Hawaii Five-O" and made an appearance on "Louie," in which he played himself and argued with Louis C.K. about being accused of stealing jokes.

Currently, there aren't any details on Cook's project other than that it's a half-hour comedy. However, if it ends up being based on Cook's stand-up material, chances are good that it will appeal largely to a college-age crowd.
