Bachmann Gets Her Official NBC Apology For 'Late Night' Diss

Bachmann Gets Her Official NBC Apology For 'Late Night' Diss One must wonder what, if anything, The Roots bandleader Ahmir "?uestlove" Thompson has learned about watched who he decides to insult and where.

Days after GOP presidential candidate Michele Bachmann informed "Late Night" host Jimmy Fallon she accepted his apology for a snarky, veiled diss of a musical intro by The Roots during her Nov. 21 appearance and demanded one from NBC executives as well, the network suits granted her wish.

NBC brass have issued an official "Mea culpa" for Thompson making the call to pull an inside joke by playing Bachmann on-stage with the intro to Fishbone's "Lyin' Ass Bitch."

NBC late night executive Doug Vaughan called the incident - in which Thompson played a recognizable few bars of the intro, but tweeted right before playing it "ask around cause i ain't tweeting title" - "not only unfortunate but also unacceptable." Vaughan added that Thompson and his band have been "severely reprimanded."

Additionally, EW.com and CNN report, Bachmann had a "nice conversation" with Fallon Nov. 23 about the incident. Bachmann said following the incident that she was unaware of the joke on her until later, when already on her way to a campaign stop, but was open to making another "Late Night" appearance down the road. She wasn't nearly as kind toward how she perceived NBC executives' handling of the situation.

"If that had been Michelle Obama who had come out on the stage, and if that song had been played for Michelle Obama, I have no doubt that NBC would have apologized to her and likely they could have fired the drummer, at least suspended him," Bachmann previously vented.

"None of that happened from NBC. And this is clearly a form of bias on the part of the Hollywood entertainment elite, but it’s also, I think, sexism as well. This wouldn’t be tolerated if this was Michelle Obama; it shouldn’t be tolerated if it’s a conservative woman either.”

For his part, Fallon tweeted in the wake of the incident "I'm honored that @michellebachmann was on our show yesterday and I'm so sorry about the intro mess." He also claimed that Thompson was "grounded."

Just as importantly, a reality check for Thompson: you're clearly not David Letterman. When Letterman took pot-shots at Sarah Palin and her daughter Bristol, he at least did it looking into a camera and made no bones about his feelings. Thompson hid behind Twitter and an obscure reference, performing the equivalent to Wayne Campbell holding up a notecard just out of a sponsor's view on-air saying "This man blows goats, I have proof."

Yes, congratulations: you're slightly less clever than a "Wayne's World" joke. You must be proud.

Next time, have the strength of your convictions, nut up and really put your ass on the line in the name of how you feel about who may or may not run the country by saying it the candidate's face.

Or in the words of a song by another much more talented band pretty much led by its drummer, "get over it."
