Ashley Judd Divorcing... Will She Now Run for Senate?
by Shannon Keirnan“Missing” star Ashley Judd is filing for divorce from her husband, Dario Franchitti, after 11 years of marriage.
"We have mutually decided to end our marriage," read a statement from the couple. "We'll always be family and continue to cherish our relationship based on the special love, integrity, and respect we have always enjoyed."
Judd met Franchitti, a three-time Indianapolis 500 winner, at a wedding reception in 1999. The two married in December of 2001, in a Scottish castle to celebrate Franchitti’s home country. They do not have children.
The split appears amicable. Not long after the announcement Judd tweeted “Family forever. @dariofranchitti.”
Franchitti responded in kind. “@ashleyjudd family forever.”
One of the stranger questions coming out of this announcement has a political edge. Will Judd be freed up to now run for Senate in Kentucky?
An eighth generation Kentucky native, Judd is a favorite with Kentucky Democrats to run against Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell next year.
Judd has been a delegate in the Democratic National Convention and is a known political activist and is outspoken in the fight for women’s rights.
While Judd has never openly agreed to run, she has not rejected the idea either.
“I am incredibly honored and frankly overwhelmed by the outpouring of support – that the people of Kentucky are interested in having me represent them is the greatest honor of my life so far and I am certainly taking a close look at it,” Judd said at the Kentucky Society of Washington’s Bluegrass Ball.
