'True Grit' Star Hailee Steinfeld To Play Sleeping Beauty in New Film Adaptation

Hollywood is going fairy tale crazy it seems: "Red Riding Hood" recently hit theaters, the Peter Pan prequel "Pan" is in the works, Jeremy Renner is set to star in "Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters" (whatever that means), and there's not one but two "Snow White" movies currently in pre-production. That list is impressive enough, but now you can add "Sleeping Beauty" to the mix.

A re-imagining of "Sleeping Beauty" is in pre-production, working with a script written by Lindsay Devlin, and Hailee Steinfeld has just been signed to play the lead. Steinfeld landed a breakout role in "True Grit," and her performance earned an Oscar nomination.

In the new version of the story, we experience Sleeping Beauty's long sleep from her point of view as she tries to escape from the dream world in which she is imprisoned. It sounds like an interestingly modern take, and much like how "Red Riding Hood" took plenty of liberties with the original story, it should be very different from the fairy tale we've all heard before.

Plus, who doesn't want to see "Sleeping Beauty" and "Inception" mixed into one film? I wonder if Aurora will end up in any dreams within dreams. I'm hoping for a rotating hallway in there somewhere.
