Future Film News: Kevin Costner Rumored for 'Superman' Reboot

Kevin Costner might be going from "Tin Cup" to "Man of Steel". The Hollywood veteran is rumored to be in consideration for a "key role" in the upcoming "Superman: The Man of Steel", according to Deadline.

Which role Costner is being considered for remains a mystery for the time being. Currently, the only other actor cast in the film is Henry Cavill, playing Supes himself, so Costner could be cast as any of the older characters in the Superman universe.

Possibilities include either of Superman's fathers (Jor-El or Pa Kent) or Perry White, Clark Kent's boss at the Daily Planet (played in the previous film by Frank Langella).

Considering Jor-El has been played in every movie thus far (even in "Superman Returns", using archive footage) by Marlon Brando, Costner seems a little too "ordinary joe" to take on that role. He would serve well as Pa Kent, or as a more subdued version of Perry White.

Hey, as long as he doesn't play Lex Luthor, it'll all be fine.

Other casting news for the film remains fairly quiet, but talks are currently underway concerning who will play Lois Lane. Names like Olivia Wilde and Alice Eve have been tossed around, but with those two getting a number of offers they are still a big question mark for the role.

The reboot, which is being helmed by "300" director Zack Snyder, is set for a release next holiday season.  There's still a bit of time for casting, but the production team will be wanting to get a move-on fairly soon, so we should know whether or not Costner will be a part of the movie in the near future.
