Heads or Tails? Javier Bardem Slated to Play James Bond Villain

Deadline New York is reporting this week that Javier Bardem, Academy Award nominee for Best Actor for his work in “Biutiful,” will be cast as a villain in the upcoming James Bond film.

Not much is yet known about the as-yet-untitled Bond #23, but Daniel Craig will reportedly be returning as James Bond, and Sam Mendes will be directing a screenplay Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan.

Reports have the script picking off where the previous film, "Quantum of Solace," left off.

Dame Judi Dench will also be returning for the series, and told the BBC in a recent interview, "I'm looking forward hugely to working with Daniel Craig again and with Sam Mendes, who I've only ever worked with in the theatre. So that'll be all good fun to do! I'm so glad it's coming back, it's wonderful."

The film is slated for a November 9, 2012, release, but MGM reps are tight-lipped about details of the film.

Bardem has a knack for playing bone-chillingly cold bad men.

He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as the "emotionless, compassionless killing machine" Anton Chigurh in “No Country for Old Men.”

“I embody violence, I am violence itself in the movie,” said Bardem while promoting the film.

It’s been one hell of a week for the Spanish actor. He just had a baby with Spanish knockout Penelope Cruz, and was offered the role of Roland Deschain in the Ron Howard-directed three-movie adaptation of Stephen King's "The Dark Tower."

Bardem recently wrapped up production on an untitled Terence Malick production with Rachel Weisz.
