Mysterious New 'Harry Potter' Website, 'Pottermore' Appears...What Could It Be?

When you have a franchise that's as big as "Harry Potter," all you need is an empty website to create some buzz.

A new website called Pottermore.com has sprung up, with the official endorsement of Potter author J.K. Rowling. In fact, her signature and pictures of owls are the only things that grade the yet-to-be-launched website as of now.

Pottermore is shrouded in mystery, as only a handful of people have seen what the finished product will look like. A number of Potter fan sites were sent letters about the site, and the Leaky Cauldron claims to have seen a preview. Their review? "It is, in a word, breathtaking," said a rep for the fan site.

A Twitter account and YouTube account have also been launched, the latter featuring a countdown to an announcement by Rowling herself on June 23.

The only information past that comes from the trademark for Pottermore, which was obtained by Warner Bros. in 2009. According to ABC.com, the trademark describes it as an "interactive site" with forums and chat. That's not very exciting, so we have to assume that there's much more to it.

The thought that this could mean a new Potter book has already been shot down. But it's possible that the site could provide more depth to the series through deleted scenes and development materials from movies, notes from Rowling's collection, bits of the story that she has tossed out, and the like.

Of course, that's all speculation. We'll just have to wait another six days and find out!
