For the Launch of 'Green Lantern': An Onion Video Mocking 'Green Lantern' (VIDEO)

Leave it to the "Onion News Network" to openly mock not only the sure-to-be blockbuster "Green Lantern," but also all of us at the same time.

"ONN" put out this sketch on their comedy news show about the movie as it released with midnight showings last night, playing it as though none of us had ever heard of "Green Lantern" before. And let's be honest...a lot of you hadn't, had you?

Tracking for "Green Lantern" predicts a big opening weekend for the film, which is no surprise considering its star power in Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, the stunning special effects, and a long-time DC superhero with a rich background and a number of fans (despite what the "Onion News Network" says).

However, early reviews for the movie are abysmal, with only 24% of them positive after 33 reviews posted on Rottentomatoes, adding another level of irony to the Onion video. "Thor" proved that less recognizable superheroes can still bring in the big bucks, but "Thor" was also bolstered week-to-week by positive reviews and good word of mouth. We'll see if the same happens with "Green Lantern" without the positive reviews.
